The Entertainment Wrap Up - August 7, 2008 - Lost Season Two, Olympics, The Guild, BB10, and More

Movie box office numbers for last weekend. 1. The Dark Knight - $42.6 million. 2. The Mummy - $40.4 million. 3. Step Brothers - $16.5 million. 4. Mamma Mia - $12.6 million. 5. Journey To The Center Of The Earth - $6.6 million. 6. Swing Vote - $6.2 million. 7. Hancock - $5 million. 8. WALL-E - $4.6 million. 9. The X-Files - $3.3 million. 10. Space Chimps - $2.7 million.

There is a lot of debate going on as to whether The Dark Knight is going to catch Titanic with box office numbers. It definitely has a strong shot at it.

The intensity level in the Big Brother house is at its biggest of the season so far. Very intense week. It’s also the same old story in a game where you have to lie and that it’s ok for you to lie but not ok for the other person to do the same. Ah, the game of Big Brother. The live endurance HOH was underway on last Thursday’s show and If you read the spoilers in the Wrap Up, you already knew who won. The order of elimination was Jerry, Libra, Dan, Ollie, Jessie, and Memphis. That left us with a final three of April, Michelle, and Renny. Renny ended up having to drop out after an impressive run of 1 hour and 58 minutes. That leaves us with April and Michelle. The deal making was underway at that point. April promised that she would not put Michelle up on the block. Michelle then tried to get Jessie’s name in that as well and April said that she’d keep him safe too. Michelle still wouldn’t drop though. After a while longer, Michelle confirmed the deal once again and dropped out. April wins HOH at the 2 hour 40 minute mark. The two of them gained a lot of respect for how long they were able to tough it out. April told a different version of the deal with Michelle to Libra and Keesha. April then noticed that Keesha was talking to Memphis a lot and started to talk about putting her up. That was said in front of Renny so Renny went and told Keesha about it as the two of them have a solid friendship. Memphis also told Keesha about April promising safety for Jessie and Michelle. Dan got his first task as America’s Player of who he should help get nominated with the viewers voting for Jessie. Ironic thing was shown then with April speculating that Dan was America’s Player with the way he was acting in the house. April made her nominations and they were Memphis and Jessie with Memphis as her target. However, problems arose when Keesha and Libra decided that they wanted Jessie out instead of what April wanted. Things really crumbled when a huge argument broke out which was fueled by Jessie. Jessie woke up from a nap in the next room and overheard a conversation between Libra and Keesha bad mouthing April. Jessie then had the funniest line that he has said all season when he said “one of my naps finally paid off”. He used the opportunity to go up to HOH to tell of the conversation going on. April and Ollie get ready to go confront the situation. It then turns into a three way “she said, she said” conversation with Libra complaining that she can’t help that people are listening at doors to their conversations. No Libra, you’re just that loud with your conversations as Jessie was laying on the bed in the middle of the room. How many times has she had this happen to her this season with her being overheard? Memphis is seen laughing out in the hallway at the argument which Jerry sees and he goes in the room with the girls to spill the info that Memphis is making fun of them. Jerry then gets involved with the argument setting Renny off. Yeah, this is a lot of stuff to recap cause of all the screaming back and forth. Jessie finally goes in the room since he is being talked about. Funny moment with Libra continuing to say that she is done talking but every time Jessie gets the last word, she keeps going. Ha ha. The plan was to gather in the kitchen to sing happy birthday to Keesha on her 30th birthday. Everyone still gathered as the argument settled momentarily. We then got the saddest and most non caring singing of happy birthday ever cause of the anger mood in the house. Keesha looked miserable too. Things fuel again as Jessie apologizes for being honest. Keesha gets big time into this argument and it escalates to another level with Libra being involved too. It’s funny too cause Jessie was just telling what he overheard and used it as an opportunity to spin the game. That brings us to the veto competition. When a houseguest is eliminated, they get a prize. They can keep it or exchange it for something else. One of the prizes is the veto. Memphis goes out first and ends up with the veto. Michelle gets a Hawaiian trip. Jessie gets the slop surprise and trades it for the veto. April ends up out and gets $10,000. Jerry gets the letter from home when he is eliminated. He trades Jessie for the veto and Jessie then gets the letter from home. Libra wins the competition and her prize is wearing Jen and Sheila’s unitard for a week. Yeah, not a good prize. She is able to trade though. She chooses to trade the unitard for Michelle’s Hawaiian trip. Memphis’s prize was the slop surprise and he is able to put anyone in the house on slop for the week and chooses Jerry. Jerry has the veto as the competition closes. Michelle goes off!!! She is furious over the unitard and the fact that Libra took the prize from her and didn’t take the letter from home instead. To no surprise, Jerry does not use the veto. That leaves Memphis and Jessie on the block. The girls alliance is still split though with April still wanting her target of Memphis out. Libra and Keesha are sick of Jessie and want him out. Jessie is extremely confident that he is staying. Keesha and Libra decide to try and get the votes to overthrow what April wanted and vote out Jessie. Those two and Memphis go to Dan who agrees that he’ll vote with them to get out Jessie. Jerry later talks to Dan to make sure he is still on board to vote out Memphis which he says yes too. The live voting takes place and the swing vote is Dan, America’s Player, meaning that America is voting on who for him to evict. The votes for Jessie to leave are Libra, Keesha, and Renny. The votes for Memphis to leave are Jerry, Michelle, and Ollie. That leaves Dan as the vote to break the tie. He goes in last and America votes for Jessie to be evicted so that is Dan’s vote. Jessie is voted out on a 4-3 vote. April’s HOH plan is overturned. Dan is in the hot seat for knowingly being the swing vote. Jessie has some harsh words for Dan upon his exit interview with Julie Chen. The HOH competition takes place which comes down to Michelle and Libra. Michelle wins it and is the new HOH. Words are already exchanged after the win as this was a big game saving moment for her and her group. So, Libra and Keesha change the vote and now are in trouble. I feel bad for Dan cause his game is all messed up now and he’s getting questioned big time on his character now.

Other notes from the Big Brother week. Dan was given his tasks as America’s Player with one being that he had to share a ten second hug with the houseguest of America’s choosing which turns out to be Jessie. He goes to Jessie making up a story of how everyone is saying that their relationships outside the house with their girlfriends and all won’t still be happening. He breaks down and Jessie gives him a big motivational speech to get his attitude back up. They hug and Dan gets a 18 second hug which is way over 10 seconds. Dan then gives a big wink and smile at the camera. It was funny stuff. I really enjoyed Dan’s motivational speeches during the endurance HOH competition. The ones left competing enjoyed them as well. Michelle turning her back to the diary room camera after her anger of losing the trip and gaining the unitard was one of the best Big Brother diary room moments ever. She was mad!!!! I found the whole drama between April, Keesha, and Libra to be pretty humorous really on who to vote out. The reason being is that Libra is saying that voting out Memphis is only beneficial to April. Right, the same as voting out Jessie would be beneficial to you and Keesha. Big Brother brought back one of my favorite ideas of the ten seasons. All Stars had the wake up calls from fans and the houseguests last night were woken up with wake up calls keeping them awake. Lots of good ones including songs. Ah, such great memories of the wake up calls from Big Brother All Stars.

What Has Happened Since The Live Show: Yep, I have the live feeds. I caved in!!!! SPOILER ALERT!! Screaming already going on right as the live feeds came back on between Renny and Michelle followed by screaming between Libra and Jerry. Michelle is loving life tonight. Michelle has mentioned to Jerry about how her and Jessie had been questioning about the hug moment story with Dan. She said that she told Jessie that she bet that Dan got money for telling “that sob story”. She is also saying that she knew something was going on when the order of the voting was changed. She said that it was changed to Dan going last speculating that the producers had overheard what was going on with the voting and changed the order. She said that Dan wouldn’t make eye contact when that happened. April and Michelle talked as April was crying saying how embarrassed that she was cause she had gotten their word on how the vote was going to be. Ollie talked about how he could hear the crowd cheering over Julie’s mic when Michelle won HOH. Michelle, Ollie, April, and Jerry all were saying that it is clear that America doesn’t like Libra with the fan questions too. Dan walked through the living room and Jerry said “go away, no one wants to talk to you” and “like you are some kind of nice kid”. Michelle went to Dan later on wanting to get an explanation from him on why he did it. She went to him really calmly and just said that she didn’t understand why he would help the others and vote with them. He said that he didn’t have a good answer and that he was a weak player in this game. She said that she knew this wasn’t him and didn’t understand what happened. Dan said that he made a mistake and that he’s embarrassed but has to live with it now. She left the room and then Dan gave a little smile at the camera. He has spent the night just laying in bed looking miserable. Libra and Keesha are very laid back tonight knowing that they are in trouble this week. Michelle just got her HOH room. Mood is really light in the house for the last couple of hours.

I have finished season two of Lost and thought I'd give some thoughts on it. I'm discussing a TON of spoilers so move on if you haven't seen it and want to watch it. Very interesting season that saw the story evolve big time from what we saw in season one. I liked the story on the "hatch" where they kept having to push the button due to hearing about major disaster if it wasn’t pushed. The constant battle of what would happen if they didn't push the button was fun including the revelation that Desmond's not making it back to the button was what brought the plane down. I've decided that Michael is an idiot. Ha ha. His plans never go well and his plans always try to make up for his previous plan that messed up and went wrong. Ana Lucia. Well, she sure was a character that changed things up. The episode that focused on the other group's 48 days on the island was extremely good and gave a good telling of the story that led to Shannon being shot. Then, I was baffled that people actually considered giving her a gun after she had shot Shannon and held the rest hostage. What are you thinking??!! Nothing good can come of it. Has Locke had anything good happen to him in his life? The guy has his dad take a kidney from him and then his dad asks him to take some money for him after his dad faked his death. Then, he agreed to it. Then, he loses the woman he loves cause of it. He is usually right on though in his island theories, well, except not pushing the button to end the season where he fully admitted that he was wrong. I liked the introduction of Eko and then getting his backstory of him and his brother. I’m still liking Hurley and I think that him and Sawyer have the best lines on the show. They are great at delivering them as well. Hurley having to watch guard over the food was funny and I didn't expect more of the background that we got on him including that Libby was in the same place as he was. The episode with him and his "friend" Dave was an interesting one where Hurley was thinking that all of the island stuff was just his imagination. It was very Buffy like with the episode where Buffy was in the hospital and being convinced that everything that had happened wasn't reality. Nice background on Kate as well as we figured out what she did that got her out on the run in the first place. I liked the backstory of Bernard and Rose too where they were finally reunited. Just how many people on the flight had previously been in a bar talking to Jack’s dad while he was drinking? It was funny when he was leaving Ana Lucia and then opens the door hitting Sawyer which leads to their drinking conversation. I was stunned when Michael shot Ana Lucia and then Libby. I did not see that coming at all!! My shocked face would have been pretty funny to see when it happened. The ending of the season was great with "Henry" being brought back and held in the hatch. They definitely kept you guessing on whether his story was true or if he was with the "others". I kept going back and forth on what I thought the story was going to be. Not only is he with the "others", he's the leader. Nice twist!! Anyway, those are just my random thoughts on season two and I’m already into watching season three.

The finale of My Boys was tonight which was the continuation of Bobby’s wedding. We had the fight between Bobby and Jack last week which meant that Bobby had to replace his best man when Jack left. He replaced him with his crew of guys. Jack does eventually return to the wedding and apologizes. Everything is fine again and he’s back in the wedding. P.J. had worked hard on trying to get in touch with him to help get him back. However, Bobby starts having second thoughts on the wedding and talks about it. The final scene has him going to P.J’s room to talk to her about things and him saying that he is afraid that he is marrying the wrong woman. We then see Jack walk into the room which is the reveal that Jack and P.J. have something going as they had kept it a secret from Bobby. And….that is our cliffhanger until the new episodes start again.

I checked out the new Heroes webisodes that are online at NBC.com. There are three parts to them that run about 3:30 a piece. The story focuses on a new person named Echo who is a mailman with a power. His power? Well, he can do some major damage with his vocal chords. The story focuses on others tracking him down which you’ll see. I won’t spoil anymore for you but they are short anyway so there isn’t much to spoil. They are worth checking out if you get the chance. The music at the end with the credits definitely got my blood going ready for some new Heroes episodes. That music is so great!! Here is a link to part one of the webisodes. http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/video/webisodes/#vid=277905 Also, if you haven’t seen the promos running on NBC for season three of Heroes, here they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQtkv0loXhw

The 2008 Summer Olympics kick off tomorrow night from Beijing with the opening ceremonies. I'm a HUGE fan of the Olympics so I always look forward to it. My favorite events are gymnastics, basketball, and well, I'll watch most anything really. Well, almost anything. I was brought into the gymnastics world back during the Barcelona Olympics when I was with some friends and their family. They were huge into it and they reeled me in on it. That event is always one of the highest rated events of the Olympics. Who doesn't remember cheering big when Kerri Strug landed that vault in 1996? What an incredible moment that was. The Magnificent Seven was put into immortality that night winning the team gold. Since then, we've had Carly Patterson win the individual gold in 2004. How will this team do? Well, with Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin leading the US, the chances are solid. It's going to take some adjusting to get used to the new scoring cause I hadn't watched gymnastics in a couple of years and was completely confused by the new scoring watching the Olympic Trials. The men’s team took a major hit with both Haam brothers out due to injury. I'm obviously a basketball fan so the question will be whether the USA team can come back after the disaster that was the 2004 Olympics. The US does return with a stronger team than what they had in 2004 with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James leading the way. Can the women continue their streak of gold medals with a roster consisting of Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and others? I haven't followed the news out of the track and field world but it is always exciting. Michael Johnson's performance in Atlanta in 1996 is still one of my favorite Olympic memories. Will there be any history made in this year's track and field events? We'll see. Just how many swimming medals is Michael Phelps going to win? That is the question after his incredible run that he had in 2004. Can Jennie Finch lead the US to another softball gold medal? Keep in mind that softball and baseball was voted out of the 2012 Olympics in London so teams are going to be looking to make statements in Beijing with their performances. Can anyone stop Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in beach volleyball after their performance in 2004? The opening ceremonies are always a spectacle to watch and I’m sure this one will be no different. NBC is going to be covering the events all across their networks including online. I have an Olympics widget on the right side of the page if you are needing schedules or results.

With the success of Dr. Horrible, I was looking around online and happened on to another project of Felicia Day's which is The Guild. The Guild is an online video series that is written by Felicia Day. Yes, she is an online video gamer and has put her experience of gaming to good work with this series. The story revolves around a group of people that play online video games together. Their only interaction with one another has been through the gaming world as they never met in person. However, a twist makes them have to have an uncomfortable first meeting. The episodes are fun and usually run around three to six minutes in length. There are ten total in season one. I really enjoy the cast as each one of them does well in their role. I love the openings with Felicia talking to the webcam as she is very funny. The series has won awards including the You Tube Best Series Award for 2007 and the Yahoo 2007 Best Web Series Award. Season one of The Guild is now available on DVD and season two is just about to start shooting.

It really is amazing that after all these years, I still haven’t gotten tired of the movie Independence Day. I had to make myself turn it off the other night to go to sleep. It’s definitely in my top five favorite movies of all time list.

It's nice to see a lot of classic shows getting DVD releases this year. I used to watch a ton of black and white shows on Nick at Nite and TV Land. I was happy to read that The Donna Reed show was going to be released on DVD later this year. The first season anyway. I always enjoyed watching that show but it just completely disappeared from the TV rerun landscape. I was listening to this TV themes radio station the other day and the theme for The Patty Duke Show was played. What will it take to get that show released on DVD? I enjoyed watching many of these shows when they aired on Nick at Nite several years ago and that was my introduction to many of them. I grew up watching reruns of Leave It To Beaver when it aired on TBS. I still find myself watching that show if I see it on. I saw the first season of Father Knows Best in the store the other day and picked it up to look at it. The first time that I watched that show was just a few years ago on TV Land and I really enjoyed it. I planned on watching it more but TV Land quit airing it. I may have to pick myself up some of these classic TV DVD box sets.

TV on DVD releases for Tuesday, August 12th. Caroline In The City (Season One), Dave’s World (Season One), The Love Boat (Season One – Volume Two), Prison Break (Season Three), South Park (Season Eleven), That Girl (Season Four), Tru Calling (Complete Series), The Wire (Season Five).

That is it for this week of the Wrap Up. Take care and God bless!!

The Entertainment Wrap Up - July 31, 2008 - Comic-Con, Joss Whedon, Angel Comic Thoughts, BB10, & More

I’ve got a lot of Comic-Con stuff this week and lots of Joss Whedon goodness.

Comic-Con was last weekend and there was a lot of attention on it as always. It's incredible with just how big Comic-Con has gotten. I would love to be able to go to an event like this cause it seems like so much fun. Going to that would probably make my year every year. The people in attendance got plenty of scoop from their favorite shows. I was of course not there but with the power of You Tube and fans that are great in recording things at the show, I was able to check out the happenings including some people posting full versions of the panels. It’s the next best thing to being there. So, I thought I’d recap and go over some of the panels from some of my favorite shows that had a presence a Comic-Con that I’ve been able to watch online.

I’ll start with Smallville. This was a fun panel!! Thankfully, the full video of the Smallville panel is up online. On the panel was: Allison Mack (Chloe), Justin Hartley (Green Arrow), Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer), and Sam Witwer (Doomsday) along with the showrunners including Kelly Souders, Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, and Kelly Souders. All the actors were asked what was going to be up with their characters this season. Allison said that Chloe would be struggling a lot this season with what happened to her in the finale. She is going to have a tough time juggling her relationship with Jimmy, helping Clark, and going after her own passions. Justin said that his character would struggle with why he’s doing what he’s doing and questioning his destiny while we’ll learn more about the origin of Green Arrow. Sam talked about Doomsday saying that the character is a paramedic and nice guy and begins to black out. He will then have to learn what is going on with him during these black out periods. Cassidy talked about Tess as the mystery character that we’ll learn more about as “she is the new girl at Luthor Corp”. Here are some various questions and answers. Allison talked about Clark and Chloe saying “behind every great man is a great woman”. Justin and the writers discussed the women in Justin’s life. They asked if any women in the audience would like to work with Justin. A ton of screams from the women while Justin points out his wife sitting over on the side with her arms crossed with a look of “what is the big deal?” ha ha. Allison says that Chloe will be stronger this season and learning more about her powers. The writers were asked about Michael Rosenbaum and they replied that he is one of the best actors on television and they were sad to see him go. They did say that the door is always open and we have not heard the last of Lex. Allison took a picture of a guy in a Green Arrow costume from the table saying that she wanted to take a picture to show their costume designer. They eventually brought him up to make sure everyone got a look at him. Fun moment. Justin had to check out the bow which he was very impressed with. Allison said “we’re talking” on the question about whether she would be able to direct an episode. The writers say that they want it to happen and she said that she’d be honored to be able to do it. There will be more of the Justice League this season. They said that the Justice League is coming to the surface and it will grow even more with Justin now being a permanent cast member this season. This season will have the Legion of Superheroes meeting Clark. The writers were asked if Smalliville would follow in the footsteps of Lost and plan an end date and if they knew how it would end? They said that they hoped it didn’t end anytime soon but that the fans will be very happy with the planned ending when it does happen. Allison was asked on if she preferred Clark or Jimmy for Chloe. She said that Chloe would be lucky to have either one of them. A fan yelled “she wants Clark” to which Allison laughed saying “I don’t know, Clark is really high maintenance” ha ha. The Q&A ended with a guy dressed as Batman asking when he’d be appearing on the show which got a big laugh from the audience and panel. This was really funny stuff. They did air a preview of season eight for the people in attendance.

Heroes had a big following at Comic-Con as the event was a huge part in launching the show a couple of years ago. Heroes had a HUGE buzz coming out of that first appearance. People were camping out over night at this year’s Comic-Con to get to attend the Heroes panel. The panel included the cast: Milo Ventimiglia (Peter), Greg Grunberg (Parkman), Hayden Panettiere (Claire), Masi Oka (Hiro), Jack Coleman (Noah), James Kyson Lee (Ando), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Suresh), Zachary Quinto (Sylar), Ali Larter (Niki), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan), and Cristine Rose (Angela). Tim Kring, creator of Heroes, showed up with a metal briefcase. Inside was revealed to be the first episode of season three. As was speculated and hoped for, the fans at Comic-Con got to see the season premiere. So jealous!! I have not read the recaps of the episode cause I obviously don’t want the spoilers but it was said to have been very well received. People are really raving about how good it was. The crowd that the Heroes panel drew was really amazing. If you want to see the full Heroes panel from Comic-Con, NBC.com has posted the video and here it is:

Joss Whedon was a busy man at Comic-Con taking part in different panels with one being Dr. Horrible. Some spoilers in this so beware of reading this if you haven’t seen it. Joss got a big ovation as he walked out on to the stage. Joss talked about coming to Comic-Con last year talking about all the things that he was wanting to do joking that he hadn’t done anything that he talked about. Ha ha. Joss Whedon, Jed and Zach Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, Simon Helberg, and Nathan Fillion all took part in the Dr. Horrible panel. Neil walked out with the freeze ray in hand getting a big ovation from the crowd. Funny moment to start with as Nathan kept trying to pull Neil’s chair out for him. After persuasion, Neil went to sit down and Nathan pulled it completely out from under him. Joss was asked “you’re well known for telling emotionally well driven stories at the expense of your character’s happiness and mine”. Joss looks down at Felicia who is awaiting his response which was hilarious. He is asked on whether he ever thinks, forget it, “here is a happy ending”. Joss pointed out that Felicia emailed him saying that it was the perfect ending. Joss says that he does have happy endings in his work and was sure he could be reminded of them later by the fans. Neil joked about trying to learn his lyrics in a really fast motion for six hours on his iPod. Felicia then got busted twittering as she had forgotten the question that was asked. Funny moment with Whedon taking a picture of the cast from behind as they spoke to the crowd. Nathan and Neil then turned to pose for the camera as the Q&A continued which was hilarious. Joss was asked about his luck with his shows being cancelled by networks and how Dr. Horrible was a different form of media from him. Joss had this comment: “Besides the fact that we all had an enormous amount of fun, this was really designed to be a model for a new way to put out media, a new form of artistic community that involves all of you guys, all of us, and maybe not so much other people. I am an advocate of evolution over revolution. I am not trying to bring down the studios. I do still work there as do we all pretty much. I’m grateful for it and I love Dollhouse and what we’re doing but things are changing. It’s really important that we make sure that as they change that they change for the better. Dr. Horrible was a little bit about that, about putting power in different hands, the wrong hands.” Loved that comment. They did announce that a DVD will be on the way. There will be musical commentary on the DVD which sounds like a lot of fun along with a fan contest which will be included as an extra as well. Also announced was a music soundtrack that will be available for download in a few weeks. Good timing for them to be at Comic-Con based off of the success of Dr. Horrible online.

Joss Whedon’s new show, Dollhouse, was also represented at Comic-Con. On the Dollhouse panel was Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku, and Tahmoh Penikett. Whedon was asked where he got the concept for the show and he said that he got the idea from meeting with Eliza. He knew how talented that she was and knew he’d have to come up with something for her. This meeting of theirs has been talked about for a while and its still a fun story. Joss was asked if there was someone that he wanted to bring in? He pointed out Tahmoh saying he wanted him immediately on the cast knowing that he’d be perfect for the role. Tahmoh’s manager called Tahmoh up and said that Joss was a fan of his. He told him that Joss wanted to talk to him and Tahmoh was sold on the idea of the show immediately. One fan mentions that there are websites dedicated already to saving the show. Awesome!! Ha ha. Joss says that the enthusiasm behind the show is great and feels it is earned. They were asked about their favorite Buffy moments. Eliza mentions when she was in a bar dancing and killing. Joss said that he loved the speech from Eliza as Faith when she was telling Angel, “kill me, I’m bad”. Joss said that he cried the whole time that they were editing it. Eliza then laughed saying “you’re so full of it”. Eliza was asked about what made her want to do Dollhouse and she goes back to the lunch meeting with Joss. She talked about things on TV that she liked, wanted to see, and not wanted to see knowing that Joss was the one to write the next project for her. She said that Joss rocks and there was no question that he understood what kind of TV project that she was wanting. After talking for a while, she said that Joss got up and went to the bathroom and came back and it was Dollhouse. Joss was asked to sell the show to people that may not know anything about it and what makes this show special. Joss replied: “No vampires, no space ships, no super heroes. This is people. Everything I do is just people and that is the only thing I want to tell stories about. Echo has this sort of removable personality. She’s different people all the time. She’s trying to figure out who she is in between times. Every time she runs into Tahmoh’s character Paul, she’s a different person. Their relationship in turn is going to be a little twisted. Believe me when I say every relationship on the show is going to be absurdly twisted. The question of identity is going to be so central and strange. I’m going to twist it in ways that I never have before and believe me when I say that it’s going to be very exciting. “ Joss got in a nice reference on Firefly saying that he had worked with executives that didn’t know what they want and don’t know what they don’t want saying that they take shows and put it up against baseball and air it out of order. He was asked about former Whedonverse cast members being on Dollhouse and Joss says that we will see Amy Acker (already had heard that but YES!!!). He does want to shy away from that but said that he’d like to have some previous cast members of his on from time to time. Eliza then said that she’d love to see Nathan Fillion on the show. Simple question up next from someone who is a Firefly fan. “Who dies first?” Big laughs from the crowd and Joss replies “you”. He said that no deaths are planned. The show is just coming together right now. Tahmoh tells a funny story about acting in his first scene and being distracted by how gorgeous that Eliza was. His first line is “how did you hear about the dollhouse?” He said his line as “how did you hear about the wallhouse?” Joss was saying “wow” in the back saying that he messed up the name of the show in the first line. Joss was asked if he had other projects in his mind that he would like to do. He replied that it is a dark place in his head and he has a lot of ideas and wants to create them all. I knew he would get asked this question as Joss was asked about having to reshoot the pilot. He said he knew that the news scared a lot of people. He pointed out that it was not the same thing as The Train Job with Firefly. The first episode of Dollhouse had everyone already knowing each other and going with the story. Now, he’s done a prequel of sorts where he gets the story to the first episode. He said that the two episodes should flow together nicely and will air right after it and not air last (referencing Firefly). Joss said that he went in and did some things that weren’t right for the network and he changed some things. He went on to say that he has to know his audience which is the network, is not going to change anything about the premise, cast, or heart of the show and wasn’t asked to do it. The obvious Buffy movie question is brought up. Joss said that he has gotten his Buffy fix through the comic saying that it isn’t fair to everyone else not getting to take part in the continuation of the show but everyone else is working and busy so that is a good thing for everyone. He will never rule it out though. He was asked about Dollhouse being a comic and said that he doesn’t see Dollhouse being a comic cause he likes seeing how Eliza is able to turn into these characters. He didn’t think it would come across as well drawn. The show is contracted for 13 episodes. Needless to say that I’m excited to check out this show. Hey, it’s a Joss Whedon show so you know I’m in.

On the Comic-Con panel for CBS’s The Big Bang Theory was Chuck Lorre (creator), Bill Prady (co-creator), and the cast consisting of Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Simon Helberg (Howard), and Kunal Nayyar (Raj). It was announced that Sara Gilbert will be back for a few episodes in season two. Prady talked about how the characters are based off of people that he worked with when he was a computer programmer. The cast said that they do hang out off set a lot. They were asked if they get asked to solve problems out on the street? Jim responded saying that no one is that foolish. One question was whether they had learned anything from the show? Jim said that he had learned to pronounce a lot of words that he’s never heard of before. He also said that he learned that a glass of ice water does not begin to go up in temperature until the last bit of ice has dissolved. No one believes him but he read it in the Smithsonian Physics 101 book. The cast was asked what was the nerdiest thing was about them? Simon responded saying “just look at me” but also pointing out that he once had a ducktail. Kunal revealed that he once played badminton in India at the state level saying that it is a very cool sport there but not so much here. Kaley said that she is pretty much a nerd all the time and is always goofing around. She told of how she is awesome at ping pong and gets really into it. She advanced in the first round of a ping pong tournament against Kunal. She said that she wore an outfit with tube socks and Kunal said that was why they lost to her. Jim said that he really enjoys talk radio instead of music but wasn’t sure if it is nerdy or just bizarre. He said that the timber of his voice is a bit geeky but “it got him this job”. Johnny answered saying that he grew up doing theatre which might be cool on the coast but not so much in Chicago. He was also into collectibles and Star Wars action figures, and then GI Joes. He liked anything that he could create stories with. There was then a random deal where the panel and the audience would raise their hands to questions revolving around how nerdy you are. They were asked if they get questioned on their scientific facts at all on the show. It was pointed out that they had a consultant which is a UCLA professor of astro physics who answers the complaints cause he makes sure they get the science stuff right. Kaley talked about her character of Penny saying “What I love about Penny is that she is so genuinely sweet. She loves these guys tremendously. She doesn’t get him (Sheldon) and he doesn’t get her. They keep going back and forth. She has a genuine love for them and kind of wants to help them out in her own way and they want to help her, kind of help bring Leonard out of his shell and all these different things. She definitely knows the effect that she has on them. Even with Kunal’s character kind of messing with him knowing that he isn’t going to talk to her but still tries every time”. Simon was asked if Howard is that ignorant on his effect on women? Simon replied saying “this is news to me”. He pointed out that Howard just doesn’t know the word no and ignorance is bliss and living the life. He thinks that Howard talking to a girl is scoring in a way for him and trying to talk to as many girls as he can. The cast was then asked about what their character would want? Some good answers. Kunal said that he would like for Raj to talk to women without being a “junkie”. Simon points out that it is pretty clear on what Howard wants so bad. Johnny said that he was happy on where Sheldon was at right now. He said that he likes this role cause he is usually cast as “the romantic lead’s assistant or annoying friend”.

I would obviously cover the Lost panel but I am not about to read that stuff and get spoilers. I’m just past halfway through season two by the way. Really enjoying it so far. I plan on being caught up in time for the season premiere.

Kristin from E Online posted the video preview of season two of Chuck that was shown at Comic-Con. I have seen the video and it looks great. It looks like season two is going to be a lot of fun. It’s a shame that more videos have not popped up from that panel cause they are a very fun cast. Here is a sneak preview of season two of Chuck.

Dr. Horrible is ranked at number one on iTunes. The original release of the project had the official Dr. Horrible site getting reportedly 200,000 hits per hour, 1,000 hits per second, which crashed the site on its first day of release. If you want to watch Dr. Horrible and missed it when it was streaming on their site, you’re in luck. Hulu is now offering all three acts of Dr. Horrible online for free of course. Here is the link to it.

Big Brother had a week that involved arguments, earthquakes, and one houseguest that was seemingly safe doing all he could to get evicted. Strange week in the house for sure. Here are the happenings in the house. It should be pointed out that I’ve seen a lot of fans upset over the editing of this week’s episodes but I can’t really comment on that as I haven’t followed the feeds really closely over the last week. Keesha won HOH last week. Keesha’s plan for her HOH was to get revenge for Steven. Her target was Angie. She tells Memphis that she is planning on putting Angie up but Memphis helps Angie out saying that there was no way that Angie was coming after her. Angie tried to get into the HOH to talk to Keesha but was denied. Jessie, Michelle, and Memphis all tried to come up with plans knowing that the target was on Angie. Keesha ends up putting Angie and Jessie on the block for eviction. In her speech, she says Angie went up because of her turning her back on Steven while Jessie went up cause he was responsible for getting Steven out last week. The veto competition is held where the competitors have to lay like flowers and have to stay there until they think an hour has passed but can’t go over an hour. Basically, they have to guess how long they’ve been laying there. Keesha finally had all she could take of it as part of the competition was water being constantly poured like a stream on your head and worms being dumped in with you. Keesha wins the veto. How did that happen? Well, she bailed out at 21 minutes but the problem was that everyone else went over an hour by around 15 minutes at least. So, she wins by default. Wheels start turning about getting out Libra. Jessie was working Keesha big time, too big. He was in and out of that HOH room like crazy and driving her to that point. He asked her how much she trusted her alliance who haven’t been loyal to her. Keesha said that she gave her word to Libra on day four that she’d have her back to the end no matter what. She told Jessie that she didn’t care what Libra was doing and that she was keeping her word. Keesha finally gets tired of all the talk and goes to the whole house saying how she made a promise to Libra. Things then get stirred up even more when a banner flies near the Big Brother house. Julie Chen later said the banner wasn’t Big Brother related which I believe cause it is VERY hard to fly anything near that house anymore cause of past banner situations. It is a no fly zone now. However, Memphis, Michelle, Jessie, and Angie saw their opportunity. Big Brother always tells the houseguests to go inside when a banner is seen so they decided to make up something on what they saw on the banner. They talked about the banner saying that Libra was lying and took the info to the HOH room. Things got heated after that when Jerry and Memphis went at it. Memphis went off about comments that Jerry made about him earlier and then saying it to his face in the HOH. The veto is not used and Jessie and Angie remain on the block. The argument between Michelle and Jerry is shown which I’m pretty sure was aired out of the time line of the events in the house. Jerry told Angie that she could still be safe and Angie told that information to her alliance. Michelle calls him out on it saying that he is playing both sides. Jerry screams at her some more. Jessie then does his best to try and test his boundaries on how safe he was this week. He proceeds to annoy everyone, wave bye bye in a mocking way to Libra through the window to the back yard, calls Jerry “father time”, and more. The talk turns to maybe switching things up and voting out Jessie but it doesn’t happen. I tend to think it wasn’t a really serious thought cause I’ve been seeing on the feeds that Angie was the target all along. Tonight’s live eviction episode had Angie being voted out on a 8-0 vote. The HOH competition was the first endurance HOH of the season and the competition was underway as the show went off the air.

Other notes from the Big Brother week. Big Brother did air the footage of the earthquake that hit California this week and shook the Big Brother house. I actually found out about the earthquake through Big Brother as I was checking the feed news when it had just happened. The houseguests all went into the backyard. Funny comment from Jerry when he said that he thought someone had run into the building with a vehicle and that was the shaking. The America’s Player gimmick is back. Fans were able to vote on who they would want to be America’s Player for only one week with them doing the wants of America for the week including who to target for nomination, voting for who goes home, and more. The houseguest with the highest votes would be given the option on whether he wanted to do it or not and keep in mind that you get $20,000 if you complete all the tasks. Dan was the one voted into it and did accept it saying that if America wanted him to do it, he’d do it. How funny was the food competition? April and Ollie being compared to The Honeymooners by Dan was hilarious. She was yelling at him the whole time and speaking of yelling at, Renny was all over the place yelling suggestions not being able to stick with one sock. It was cracking me up cause both teams were going nuts blaming the other.

What You Missed On The Live Feeds: On Saturday, you saw a lot that aired of Jessie roaming back and forth to plea his case in the HOH room. Jerry also told Angie that she might have the votes to stay. Jerry and Michelle had an argument over things that had been said and figuring out what part of that was lies. The argument ended with the two fuming and going their separate ways. Part of it was seen on TV. The Memphis/Jerry argument was not seen on the feeds due to the feeds being off as the banner plane flew over before this all happened. So, they went to FOTH during it. The earthquake in California was seen on the feeds. There were feeds on inside the house and outside when the quake happened. Everyone jumped up immediately realizing what was going on. The feeds went to FOTH during the quake and you could actually see the fish tank shaking. It is pretty clear that they are getting serious about getting the live feed subscriber rate up. Recently, Jokers was forced to pull their media clips for the first time that I can remember.

What Has Happened Since The Live Show: SPOILER ALERT!!! Here are the results of tonight’s HOH competition that was still ongoing as the show went off the air. Jerry was the first to be eliminated followed by Libra, Dan, Ollie, Jessie (who appears to have been disqualified), and Memphis. That left the final three between Michelle, Renny, and April. Renny was then disqualified for apparently turning around to face the wall. That left April against Michelle. Deals were trying to be made between the two of them but no one would drop. Michelle asked for her and Jessie to be kept safe this week to which April agreed. Michelle ends up dropping and April wins HOH after the competition approaches near the three hour mark.

Movie box office numbers for last weekend. 1. The Dark Knight - $75.1 million. 2. Step Brothers - $30.9 million. 3. Mamma Mia - $17.7 million. 4. The X Files - $10 million. 5. Journey To The Center Of The Earth - $9.7 million. 6. Hancock - $8.3 million. 7. WALL-E - $6.4 million. 8. Hellboy II - $5.1 million. 9. Space Chimps - $4.5 million. 10. Wanted - $2.7 million.

If you’re an Angel fan and aren’t reading After The Fall, you’re really missing out. After The Fall is the new comic series that is the sixth season of the show written by the same team behind the show. I’ve been reading the Buffy season eight comics as well but I think the Angel comics are stronger than the Buffy ones. Consider this a review of issues one through nine. I’m going to go into spoilers about what is happening in the Angel world in the comic series so if you are wanting to read the comics, you will want to skip this. You will remember that the show ended on the cliffhanger of the gang getting ready for the big fight. The comic picks up where that left off. We’ve gotten the current story while also having a VERY nice flashback of three issues telling how we got to the current day. So, what is happening? All right. The gang was separated after the big fight as things got very ugly in LA or…well, not LA. As you could see, Los Angeles was about to be turned into the big bad but it turns out that Los Angeles got sent there instead. Well, Angel is no longer a vampire. He is human but is obviously not telling people this. Wesley is back but not like we know him. Wesley was threatened by Wolfram & Hart with him being teased of being happily ever after with Fred. He was reminded of his contract with them and that the contract lasts forever. They force him back into the fight even though he is dead saying that it is the only chance that he’d have, even a slim chance, of seeing Fred again. Wesley is back but is a ghost alongside Angel as he has been told to keep an eye on him for Wolfram & Hart. Spike survived and felt invincible after surviving two big bads. He boasted on retiring but ended up helping the humans that have been caught in the middle of this. Spike has also been sticking with Illyria. We get the reveal that she is out of control and Spike has to try to reel her in. Spike has also been hanging out with a group of women with the main one being named Spider. Angel ends up killing the son of a Lord so the father is ready for some major payback on Angel. Angel ends up standing up and challenging all the Lords. A battle that is obviously impossible to win especially considering that Angel is human. Connor is back and he and Angel meet up. Connor now has all of his memories back. Kate is back and helped save Connor when the demons around him found out that he was Angel’s son. What about Gunn? Well, Gunn is a bit different now. He’s a vampire. The final battle had Angel checking on Gunn but then Angel went to deal with the dragon. Gunn said that Angel never came back for him. Gunn was pulled away by a group of vampires who saw that he wasn’t going to make it and wasn’t going to be saved. To save him, they bit him turning him into a vampire. Gunn and his new crew are fighting a similar fight as Angel but Gunn is laying back to not be noticed. Did I mention that Gunn is also not happy about being left? Gunn has killed a Lord and also has a telepathic fish in his possession. Lorne retreated away after he killed Lindsey but found himself missing his friends. The big bad happened and he used his abilities to help make one peaceful place in the area. Lorne is also keeping an eye out on his friends to make sure what is going on with them. Angel and Wesley show up and Lorne knows about the impossible challenge that Angel has made. As Angel goes on to the big fight, the gang shows up including Gwen who has her lightning powers back. Lorne got the gang all back together to help out Angel. As the battle continues, Wesley is shown to Illyria. Suddenly, Fred returns. The sight of Wesley brings her back right in the middle of the battle. Spike is immediately mad knowing that this isn’t going to be good. He says that if he had known that Wesley was back that he wouldn’t have brought Illyria. Illyria has been weakened from Fred’s human feelings and is starting to win the battle to return. Spike talks of how the two change places all the time and seeing Wesley brings her back. They brought back my girl!! Ha ha. Fred is fighting to come back!! I was so disappointed when they killed her off on the show. Angel wins the battle with the main Lord after using something that he found at Wolfram & Hart. Gunn and his crew observe the battle but don’t get involved. The fight with Angel and all the Lords was supposed to be one on one and when it turned out not being, the command was made to kill the humans. Angel and gang are officially back in business looking to help out. The end of issue nine sees Wesley revealing to Fred/Illyria his body that he used as a bargaining type of deal with Wolfram & Hart. She sees this and Illyria is mostly brought back out as Fred sees what has happened. Illyria does point out that it is true that Fred is still very much in her and fighting to get out. Illyria says that she’s having a hard keeping her pushed down. Wesley points out that having the gang around makes Illyria weak and makes Fred come back so he says that maybe they shouldn’t be around. However, she isn’t having any of it saying that she isn’t about to lose him again. We’re still waiting to find out just what all Wolfram & Hart have planned with Wesley being involved as he is a very critical part of their plans. Wow, these comics are good!! I can’t wait to read more.

I am a huge fan of the Summer Olympics so I’m very excited about the kickoff of the Beijing Olympics next week. There will be a ton of coverage all over the NBC networks and online.

She has been sort of seeing Jack but they have kept it a secret from Bobby so far. To close out tonight’s episode, was that Kenny and Stephanie making out in the background??!! The Entertainment Wrap Up - July 24, 2008 - Dark Knight Opens Big, Dr. Horrible, Lost Season One, and More

Here come the Batman box office numbers. The movie made $18.5 million on midnight showings just by itself which topped the record by Star Wars Episode 3 which made $16.9 million. The movie then set the record for biggest opening day ever making $66.4 million total on Friday which topped Spiderman 3's $59.8 million. However, the big news was that the movie had the biggest box office opening weekend ever with $158.4 million defeating Spiderman 3's $151.1 million. There was talk today that the movie is now up over $200 million making it the fastest movie to ever reach the $200 million mark. I have yet to see the movie but am really looking forward to seeing it. I have had no telling how many friends ask me this week if I've seen it and they are raving about it.

Overall movie box office numbers for last weekend. 1. The Dark Knight - $158.4 million. 2. Mamma Mia - $27.7 million. 3. Hancock - $14 million. 4. Journey To The Center of the Earth - $12.3 million. 5. Hellboy II - $10.1 million. 6. WALL-E - $10 million. 7. Space Chimps - $7.1 million. 8. Wanted - $5 million. 9. Get Smart - $4.1 million. 10. Kung Fu Panda - $1.8 million.

I left off last week with Jessie being HOH on Big Brother 10 so how did his HOH reign go? Well, I guess it went well for what they had planned. He wanted to target Renny but his alliance talked to him about getting the personal plans of his out of the equation. Again, we had Jessie saying that Renny should have apologized BEFORE his HOH win. Does he just ignore what he doesn't want to hear? Again, she apologized immediately during the first conversation over the waking him up that night. The happenings in the house this week had the team of Ollie, Michelle, Angie, Jessie, Steven, and Dan winning the food competition. This got into some tempers being stirred. We had Libra getting caught in her lie. Her and April discussed about how it was unfair that they had two "old people" on their team. She did in fact say that the "old people" were the reason for the loss and she went nuts when she was questioned on it by Jerry and Renny. I always love it too when someone denies something that they said and then the show runs the flashback of the quote. Dan was finally able to get Jessie alone and work out a deal with him. The target for the week was Steven. Jessie did put up Steven and Dan for eviction. The veto competition was held and Keesha did think about winning it and taking Steven off the block. However, Michelle was the veto winner and did not use it. That led us to last night's eviction episode. No surprise as Steven was voted out on a unanimous vote. He did a speech before the live voting which wasn't so much as a plea to keep him but instead a bye bye speech. ha ha. It's funny how right before he did his speech, I was just thinking about how pointless it was to try and plea to stay every week when the decision has been made on who to vote out. Well, he knew it and went out with a speech. The HOH competition was held and came down between Keesha and Libra. Keesha won it and is the new HOH.

Other thoughts on the Big Brother week. Funny stuff with the aliens appearing in the mirrors and scaring houseguests. It was very reminiscent of the "ghosts" of evicted houseguests during Big Brother All Stars.

What You Missed On The Live Feeds: I've got some You Tube clips in here to check out if you want to but remember that they may have some strong language in them when you watch. The houseguests have been having fun with a slip and slide in the back yard. We also had the back yard turn into a dance show with them doing the electric slide. Not bad at all considering that they have no music to go with it. This week also saw the houseguests doing Big Brother Late Night which had them doing their own show in the living room including getting dressed up, Dan having the hosting duties, a David Letterman style Top 10 List, makeover segment, antique value segment, a therapy session with Libra being the therapist interviewing April and Ollie, and other things. This cast is definitely able to entertain themselves in the house and are also keeping the feeds entertaining as well.

It appears that Brenda Walsh will be returning to Beverly Hills 90210 this fall. Official word has come out from the show's executive producer that Shannen Doherty will be back and the story will be that Brenda will be directing the high school musical. She will be making multiple episode appearances with this story line.

I've finished season one of Lost and am officially loving the show. I have had so many friends suggesting this show to me over the last year or so and I've been looking for a good show to watch for summer viewing. It looks like I've found it. I pulled a long marathon over the weekend to finish up the season and didn't watch one bad episode. I'm going to go into some thoughts on the season so if you plan on watching the show and don't want spoilers, you'll want to avoid the rest of this paragraph. The writing is so good on this show. I love how the episodes bounce back and forth with past story and current story. It's a good way to figure out how everyone got on the plane and where they were in their previous lives. We seem to see the good and bad of every person. I got blindsided on the fact that Kate was the criminal being escorted by the marshall. I didn't expect that at all!! I loved following the story of them trying to figure out the previous distress signal that had been left and then finding the woman that left it. I was shocked over them killing off Boone. That is one thing that I've noticed about this show is that they aren't afraid to kill off characters. Hurley is hilarious!! I have laughed so much at his antics over the season. I was expecting some major things going on on the island during the season finale but it turned out the bad was going on out in the water with "the others" taking Walt. Well, the baby was taken by the french woman but I was expecting some major ugliness besides that. I knew that something wasn't going to be good for them being rescued on the boat. It couldn't cause the show would be over. We're rescued, show's over. ha ha. I kept waiting for the twist of who was pulling up in that boat and I got it. I can't even tell you how many times I've planned on watching one episode or two and then get left on a cliffhanger. Then, I have to watch another episode....and another....and then another. Really enjoying this show a lot.

The final day for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show has been announced by NBC. May 29, 2009 will be the last show for Leno as the host of The Tonight Show.

If you're a Joss Whedon fan, like myself, you've probably heard about or watched his latest project. Dr. Horrible is an online viewing venture from Whedon that was brought about due to the writers strike. Dr. Horrible has launched online in three separate episodes with each going about fifteen minutes in length. Dr. Horrible has all kinds of ties to previous Whedon shows but has a fresh one as well. Neil Patrick Harris stars as Dr. Horrible, who is a supervillian trying to get into the Evil League of Evil. Nathan Fillion (Firefly) stars as Captain Hammer who is the arch nemesis of Dr. Horrible. Felicia Day (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) stars as Penny, the girl that Dr. Horrible is in love with. Of course, I watched this over the past week and have really enjoyed it!! Lot of fun and laughs. The show is a musical and very Once More With Feeling like, which is of course the name of the Buffy musical episode if you aren't familiar with it. When I watched the preview scene for it, my first thought was, oh yes, this is what it would have been like if The Evil Trio had been in the Buffy musical episode. Imagine Andrew singing about his love for a girl and you have Dr. Horrible. Dr. Horrible does a video blog for the web where he talks about his plans. Harris does a great job in this role and seeing Fillion in a different role from Firefly is a lot of fun as well. Seeing Felicia Day's fun performance made me wish we had gotten more of her on Buffy. The basic story is Dr. Horrible trying to be accepted into the Evil League Of Evil while also having to deal with this major crush on Penny and the problems with Captain Hammer. If you're a Big Bang Theory fan, you'll see another very familiar face in this as well. I highly recommend checking out Dr. Horrible. Joss Whedon has another hit on his hands and I love that the hit is online and not on actual TV. Maybe the success of this will inspire others to give online shows a shot. Hopefully this will also inspire....a sequel!! For more info on Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, head over to www.drhorrible.com
Here is the trailer for it.

I can always find something to laugh about and make my blood pressure rise when it comes to The CW. I've always said that I was a huge WB fan. I wanted to like The CW. In fact, I was excited about the idea of combining WB and UPN. However, it has been clear all along that The CW is more UPN and hardly any WB. Dawn Ostroff was making the rounds last week talking about the network and future plans. She explained that the network is going after the young female audience. Nothing else. That is what was said. She also explained the decision of letting go of WWE's Friday Night Smackdown with saying that the fans that watched WWE didn't watch anything else on the network. Ok, are you trying to tell me that WWE fans don't watch Smallville or Supernatural? I don't buy that a bit considering I'm a male fan that watches WWE and watched several other shows on the network. I see a lot of crossover appeal between the fans of those shows. Speaking of Smallville, what is it going to take for one of the most popular shows on the network to get some mentions? If you listened to the CW promotion and interview segment, you'd think the only shows on the network are Gossip Girl, America's Next Top Model, and the upcoming Beverly Hills 90210. Gossip Girl is definitely the face of the network right now which is fine cause the show does have a lot of buzz about it. 90210 is obviously a huge leap for the network. However, there are OTHER shows on the network that are very popular. Smallville is one of the highest rated shows on the network and the buzz from the network about it is, well, pathetic. I haven't thought that Smallville has been treated very well since the move to The CW. The WB was able to target the same demographic that The CW wants (however both male and female) at a level that few have been able to achieve. It is possible to target the same age range and give males and females something that they like to watch. Ostroff also talked about how they feel that actual TV viewing and live ratings are going out cause of people watching shows online and on demand. Isn't this the same network that pulled all the streaming video forms of Gossip Girl last season to get people to watch it on TV instead of online to get the ratings from it? Now, they're talking like they are catering to the online viewers?? They are also talking about launching their 2009-10 season during the summer which is the time when hardly anyone watches TV. Do you really want to take a risk of launching shows in the time when viewership is at its worst? The more that I hear from The CW, the less seriously that I take them as a major network. Like I said, I wanted to like The CW. I really did.

Joss Whedon has said that he is redoing the first episode of Dollhouse. It appears that the original pilot will now become the second episode. He spoke on Whedonesque.com about the changes saying: "There were a few clarity issues for some viewers. There were also some slight issues with tone — I was in a dark, noir kind of place...and didn't bring the visceral pop the network had expected from the script. The network truly gets the premise...loves the cast, is excited about the show but they're also specific about how they want to bring people to the show and I not only respect that, I kinda have to slap my forehead that I didn't tailor my tone and structure to the network’s needs, since that's something I pride myself on."
Initial thoughts? Oh no. Fox is trying to take over again. Please don't let this end up the same as the demise of Firefly!! Maybe I'm just worrying too much. I am really looking forward to another Whedon show.

Sad to hear about the passing of Estelle Getty this week. My thoughts and prayers go out to her, her family, and friends.

Robot Chicken is set to do another Star Wars episode. Very happy about this!! The episode will apparently air on November 16th.

Ok, I lied about the Angel comic reviews this week. I have not had the time to read them like I thought I would. I'm sorry and I'll try again next week.

TV on DVD releases for Tuesday, July 29th. Baldwin Hills (Season One), Beverly Hills 90210 (Season Five), Freakazoid! (Season One), Girlfriends (Sesaon Four), The Hills (Season Three), Law & Order: SVU (7th Year), Tiny Toon Adventures (Season One - Volume One).

You Tube Video Of The Week: With Dr. Horrible, this brings back great memories of the other loved musical from Joss Whedon.

The Entertainment Wrap Up - July 17, 2008 - Big Brother 10 Week One Thoughts, Late Night TV, Cable Ratings, and More

Big Brother 10 is underway. I've said that my hopes would be that the show could go back to what it used to be after the horrible Big Brother 9 season. Based on first impressions, I'm feeling better about this season already. The first week saw one of the cast members get a reality check very early. One of the rules of Big Brother is to not play the game too hard from the beginning and that is what happened to Brian. Brian made a quick alliance with the HOH and did all he could to make sure that he was running the HOH instead of Jerry. Another rule in Big Brother is never make quick alliances. They rarely work with Kail's alliance as one example and the other being the Horsemen in season five. It was funny to watch Brian and Dan being all cheerful and then seeing their reaction turn quickly when Jerry gave his speech. I'm jumping ahead though so let's get right into it.

Here are the happenings in the first week of Big Brother 10. For the first time since Big Brother 3, all the houseguests are complete strangers with no opening twist. The houseguests were immediately forced to choose a HOH before even entering the house and vote on it just going by looks. The votes were cast and the results would be revealed later. The houseguests went into the house in groups. We went through the introductions in the living room. The houseguests then learned that their first competition was set to take place. It appeared to be a luxury competition until Julie Chen revealed that it was also a food challenge. The house was split into two teams. With an odd number, someone had to sit out and Jessie volunteered quickly so he sat out. However, he didn't know what the challenge would consist of when he volunteered to sit out. The teams would get inside of cars wheeling themselves across the backyard hanging upside down. When you made your way across, one person from your team had to jump out. So, you had to agree on who was going to jump out or you're stuck until a decision is made. Also, if you jump out, you give up on the winning point of the competition which was winning one of two classic cars there in the backyard. The red team won pretty easily but it had to be decided between Memphis and Steven on who would be the winner of the car cause they both wanted it. Steven jumped out last leaving Memphis the winner of the car and their team getting to eat food for the week while the others were on slop. Memphis chose the '69 Camaro for his winning. Even though Jessie sat out, it was revealed that he would get to eat with the winning team for the week. The results of the HOH were revealed to the house and the voting was between the two oldest players in the house, Jerry and Renny. Jerry got four votes while Renny got three votes. So, the first HOH is Jerry and he had to make his nominations for eviction in 24 hours. We had an immediate alliance between Brian and Dan. Dan then went to Ollie and pulled him into their alliance. We had the first issue of the season between Renny and Jessie. Renny stumbled into the bedroom where some of the house was trying to sleep and woke Jessie up. He confronted her on it saying how rude it was that people were trying to sleep, well, actually just him it seemed. She apologized (which he would later say that she hadn't apologized when their confrontation was brought up later) but Brian saw that as a target. He went to Jerry and talked to him about putting up Renny and Jessie to get the conflict out of the house. Jerry agreed and he ended up putting Renny and Jessie up for eviction. Brian also got himself an alliance with Jerry in the process of their talking. Brian was feeling VERY good at this point along with his alliance. Things then started going bad for Brian. The veto competition was held and it ended up being won by Jessie so that guaranteed that Jerry had to put someone else up on the block. Brian, Ollie, and Dan decided to target Memphis as Brian saw him as a big threat in the game and also used the "he won a car" as a negotiation tactic. Ollie was talking to April, Libra, and Keesha in the bedroom and he talked to them about targeting Memphis. Brian then came in and got it rolling even more. It was all about Ollie setting it up and Brian hammering it home. However, the girls started talking and realized what was going on with there being an alliance and how they played that bedroom talk to perfection. It should be pointed out that April and Ollie have been romantically interested in each other already. April and Libra talked to Ollie and flat asked him about an alliance and he looked like a deer in headlights when asked. The girls had figured out that Brian had been making an alliance with, well, everyone. ha ha. A revolution was set up by Ollie and the girls where they went to the rest of the house to see what Brian had said to them. Sure enough, alliance with everyone and the decision was made to go to the HOH to make an ultimatum. Nine people headed up to the HOH room to talk to Jerry. They promised him safety for the next week but pointed out how Brian had been playing the game. Jerry made the tough decision to go back on his word. Brian and Dan thought everything was great and that Memphis would go up in replacement of Jessie. However, the look on their faces was priceless when Jerry put up Brian in Jessie's place. Brian took it in good fun saying that he thought he had things all lined up and got blindsided pointing out how good everyone had played the situation to get him. Jerry did tell Brian that Ollie was the ringleader in getting the tables turned. Ollie explained his turn saying that he had no choice but to turn cause he had been exposed and had to go with the majority. Brian's strategy to stay in the house turned out to be just him having fun with the house showing how fun he is to have around. They did a very funny puppet show which had an imitation of him being evicted where he said that he "made 8,000 alliances". ha ha. The plan worked with the ones doing the puppet show as they talked of how disappointed that they were in him having to go home. Well, I say that it worked but I thought the show made it look better with his chances of staying than it actually played out on the feeds. Angie did try to sway some votes. We had a blowup between April and Keesha which resulted in some heated words being exchanged. On the live eviction episode, a live audience (the first for a weekly eviction since Big Brother 1) saw Brian get evicted on a 9-1 vote with Dan being the only vote for him to stay. Brian was interviewed afterwards and he had a great line saying that he was "building an army but no one was on the other side". The HOH competition came down between Ollie, Libra, Steven, and Jessie with a tiebreaker. Jessie ends up winning the HOH.

Other thoughts on the Big Brother week. I'm loving the new opening for the show. The new graphics are cool too that they are using during the show. House Calls got a lot of Chilltown calls this week. Will held a contest for the best prank caller to call into House Calls and mention Chilltown. Thoughts on the houseguests so far. I like Jerry but I just don't know about how his first HOH week went cause he sure wasn't running his own HOH as others were in his ear. Libra is definitely a game player in that house. She is stirring up a lot of things over the beginning of this game. I can see Renny sticking around for a while cause many don't see her as a real threat. Not sure what to make of Ollie just yet. His first week went all over the place and he looked like a kid getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar when he got confronted by the girls on his alliance. I'll have to see some more game play out of him to see on how I think he'll do. Dan is really in a bad spot now being the left over from the alliance with Brian. He is going to have to scramble to stay in the game. I have yet to see a whole lot out of Steven and Memphis to really make my mind up on their chances to go far. The same goes with April and Michelle on the girls side. Angie is an interesting one. From what I've seen and heard so far, it sounds like she is playing the game hard but not really showing that she is playing hard. She's playing a quieter game that could pay off.

Brian was on House Calls today being interviewed by Gretchen and Dick. He was a lot of fun on there. He definitely has a good idea of the personalities in the house and learned about each one of them. He had a good attitude about things realizing that he played the game too hard too quick. He said that he had only seen two seasons of Big Brother and they were All Stars and a little bit of Big Brother 2. When asked who he would like to see exit the game next, he said Libra saying that she fuels the fire in that house. He said that of all the girls that could do well in the game, he said that Angie could do very well if she can keep her morals and conscious out of it. He pointed out that Angie has been making a lot of plays in the game that he has found out about after leaving the house. She is making plays that are being kept low at this point and that she only reveals what she wants to reveal about herself.

What You Missed On The Live Feeds: The live feeds started at 11pm central time on Sunday night after the west coast show had aired. The feeds went live and the houseguests were running and screaming around the house. Pretty funny and a really fun light mood. It sure beat the beginning of the BB9 feeds with them all yelling at each other and this really tense situation. That should have been a sign of things to come. ha ha. The BB10 cast was seen waving at the cameras as they ran around so it was pretty obvious that the cast was told that the feeds and Big Brother After Dark were going live. I should point out something that was left out of the argument between Keesha and April. Keesha at one point threw water across the yard and some of it landed on Michelle. That was the main reason that Michelle was over there talking to Keesha after Keesha and April were separated. Michelle was also trying to calm the situation but was questioning about what was up with the water landing on her. She did apologize to Michelle about it though. We had a sock puppet show from Dan, Brian, Angie, Memphis, and Steven where they acted out the first eviction ceremony. Ok, SPOILER TIME. I'm going to tell who Jessie has nominated for eviction. If you don't want to know who it is, you need to move on down to the next paragraph. Jessie won HOH on Wednesday night and has made his nominations. Jessie nominated Dan and Steven for eviction which isn't really a surprise. He was naming names right after the live show ended.

Movie box office numbers for last weekend. 1. Hellboy II - $34.5 million. 2. Hancock - $32 million. 3. Journey To The Center Of The Earth - $21 million. 4. WALL-E - $18.7 million. 5. Wanted - $11.9 million. 6. Get Smart - $7.2 million. 7. Meet Dave - $5.2 million. 8. Kung Fu Panda - $4.4 million. 9. The Incredible Hulk - $2.32 million. 10. Kit Kittredge - $2.30 million.

More late night TV buzz this week that was stirred up at the Television Critics Association session on Wednesday. ABC Entertainment president, Stephen McPherson, talked about the possibility of bringing Jay Leno over to the network. The way that the question was asked to him was funny as they had Jimmy Kimmel looking like a reporter asking the question of pairing up Leno and Kimmel. Leno has talked for a while now that he isn't ready to retire but is going to follow through on his agreement with NBC to hand The Tonight Show over to Conan next year. The speculation has been flying since then on what would Leno decide to do. There is really no telling what might happen but I do think that Leno will end up somewhere. He loves what he does and isn't ready to quit but understands the position that he, NBC, and Conan are in. ABC definitely seems ready to make a move in late night TV as McPherson even mentioned the chances of moving Kimmel to 10:35pm (central time) were a "huge possibility". Leno and Kimmel would be a strong late night lineup for ABC that would be fun to watch with seeing the three of them (Leno, Conan, and Letterman) battle it out at 10:35. That would bring the question of what about Nightline if ABC did decide to go this route. Nightline does very strong ratings against Leno and Letterman. McPherson didn't talk much about Nightline though when questioned about it. This is all talk for right now but the speculation talk sure is exciting.

How did some of the big cable shows perform with their season premieres? Burn Notice had its second season premiere on USA last week getting 5.4 million viewers which was up 35% from the series premiere a year ago. TNT had season premieres of their own with The Closer getting an average of 7.8 million viewers making it the most watched episode of scripted TV on cable this year. Following that, Saving Grace opened up its season with an average of 5.2 million viewers.

The Joss Whedon fans have spoken again. Whedon launched his new internet only show, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, and the fans crashed the site due to the popularity of it. The site is back up and running and you can check out the site at: drhorrible.com and the show is also up on iTunes.

Speaking of Joss Whedon, I'll have my latest thoughts on the season six Angel comics next week.

Amy Poehler told the Associated Press today that she will be joining The Office spinoff. She didn't know any details but confirmed that she would be joining the show. This obviously sounds like her exit from Saturday Night Live may be upcoming in the next little while. Amy is definitely one of the bright spots for SNL so her leaving is a big loss for the show and a gain for the spinoff of The Office.

A DVD release of Robot Chicken's Star Wars stuff is being released in stores this Tuesday. I saw this a while back and actually talked about it in the Wrap Up a long time ago. It is hilarious!! I laughed all through it and thought the writing was very funny for it. I've seen a few episodes of Robot Chicken but the Star Wars stuff is definitely my favorite of what I've seen.

I really am going to have to watch more episodes of Burn Notice. Fun show. I was raving last week about the great promo for Burn Notice to the song "Everybody Wants You" and here is the link if you haven 't seen it. I love it.

Michael J. Fox is set to return to TV. He will have a four episode role on the FX show Rescue Me coming up next year.

Any predictions on the big box office that The Dark Knight does this weekend? Hmm, I wonder if it will open up at number one? ha ha.

TIME Magazine's Richard Corliss has made his picks on his favorite baseball movies of all time. It is a fun video slideshow that you watch at this link:
http://www.time.com/time/video/?bcpid=1214055407&bclid=1342094282&bctid=1668060481
My favorites that are featured on the slideshow are A League Of Their Own, Major League, and The Bad News Bears. If I see any of these three movies on, I'll usually watch them. Who can forget Randy Quaid playing one of the Cleveland fans who just rips on the team when they are losing? His ranting tirade against Rick Vaughn in the second movie is great!! "Just a bit outside" was a line from Bob Uecker that still lives on in pop culture. The movie also brought the song "wild thing" to another level as Vaughn's entrance at the end of the movie is one of my favorite sports movie moments. A League Of Their Own was a major favorite of mine. It immortalized the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and gave it the recognition that it deserved. One of the original players in the league was actually here in the local area giving a speech recently. The movie itself was a good mix of drama, sports, and comedy. The Bad News Bears is a classic. That is about all that can be said there. Speaking of the movie, I'd love to see the old TV series pop up somewhere to watch as I loved it.

I got an email wanting to let you know about a new comedy show involving Martin Lawrence. Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-up is currently airing on Starz. The show airs Wednesdays at 9pm central time. Martin Lawrence is the executive producer of the show and it features up and coming comics performing for the live audience. Comedians performing on the next new episode include MoZan, Joe Torry, and Lavell Crawford. For more info on the show including previews of episodes, schedules, downloads, and more, head over to: http://starz.com/1stamendment

If you're a fan of the TV show, Reba, you'll probably like the tie in with the show and Reba McEntire's new video with Kenny Chesney. The video is for "Every Other Weekend" and the story of the video is played by Joanna Garcia and Steve Howey who played the roles of Cheyenne and Van on the show. Here is a link to the video if you want to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHO79ET2T24

TV on DVD releases for Tuesday, July 22nd. LA Ink (Season One), Las Vegas (Season Five), Robot Chicken (Star Wars), Spaced (Full Series), Transformers: Cybertron (Ultimate Collection), and TV Funhouse.

You Tube Video Of The Week: Facebook Anthem. Some strong language in this one.

The Entertainment Wrap Up - July 10, 2008 - Big Brother 10 Preview, and More

Hope you're all doing great!!

The Big Brother 10 cast has been revealed. Based on first impressions, I'm already feeling better about this cast than the last one. Here is the info on the new cast:
Angie - 29 years old - pharmaceutical sales representative.
April - 30 years old - financial manager.
Brian - 27 years old - telecommunications account manager.
Bryan (aka Ollie) - 27 years old - marketing sales representative, son of a Pentecostal preacher.
Dan - 24 years old - Catholic school teacher.
Jerry - 75 years old - retired marketing executive, watched all BB episodes and a watcher of the live feeds and After Dark.
Jessie - 22 years old -- professional bodybuilder.
Keesha - 29 years old - Hooters waitress and model.
Libra - 31 years old - Human resources representative.
Memphis - 25 years old - "mixologist".
Michelle - 28 years old - realtor.
Renny - 53 years old - beauty salon owner.
Steven - 35 years old - champion bull rider.
No doubts about this being a variety of personalities and ages for this season. It should provide for an interesting dynamic. I have watched the video of the house tour and am liking what they have done with it. The decade themes look great in the bedrooms and the kitchen got a HUGE makeover. The show premieres this Sunday night at 7pm central time on CBS. My pleas for the show this year. No more of this "good people" vs. "bad people" stuff. How many seasons in a row have we had the cast members argue on who is the good group and who is the bad? I think it started with season six as far as going to the next level. Actually, my plea overall this season is PLEASE be better than Big Brother 9. Anything has got to be better!! Please!! ha ha. I am still waiting on whether to take this cast for a test drive before buying the live feeds or just blind buy. Knowing me, I'll be doing a blind buy and I'll be glued to it by Sunday night. Casting is obviously going to make or break a show and I just really hope that it boosts Big Brother back up after last season. House Calls: The Big Brother Talk Show will once again be running this season with Gretchen being joined by former Big Brother cast members. This is the schedule that I have been able to find: Daniele (BB8) on Mondays, Bunky (BB2) on Tuesdays, Sheila (BB9) on Wednesdays, Dick (BB8) on Thursdays, and Kaysar (BB6 & BB8) on Fridays. For more info on Big Brother 10 including more on the cast, house, and other happenings, head over to: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_brother/

Movie box office numbers for last weekend. 1. Hancock - $62.6 million. 2. WALL-E - $32.5 million. 3. Wanted - $20 million. 4. Get Smart - $11.1 million. 5. Kung Fu Panda - $7.3 million. 6. The Incredible Hulk - $4.8 million. 7. Indiana Jones - $3.7 million. 8. Kit Kittredge - $3.2 million. 9. Sex and the City - $2.3 million. 10. You Don't Mess With The Zohan - $1.9 million.

The numbers for Hancock are a bit misleading as those are just weekend numbers. The movie opened up earlier in the week and did a total of $103 million for its opening week.

I'm still spending the summer TV viewing trying some new shows to see what might hook me. I have had so many friends over the last couple of years trying to get me to watch Lost. So, I've caved in and am watching the first season on ABC.com. I'm enjoying it so far. I thought the last ten minutes of the pilot episode set up the mystery of the island really well. I like how we keep getting the backstory of characters and how they ended up on the plane in the first place. There was one moment in the first episode that I found kind of funny due to me seeing a familiar face. This is a spoiler for anyone that might watch it but not a major one cause it is only one episode. On screen pops up Parkman from Heroes and I'm thinking cool. Well, cool didn't last long as a few minutes later it was clear that he wasn't on the show for long. I'm not jumping up and down about the show just yet but I am enjoying watching it.

If you're needing a Heroes fix to hold you over till the fall (that would include me), head over to NBC.com as July 14th is the premiere date for the new Heroes webisodes. It will be a trilogy of videos that follows a mailman with abilities. The webisodes are done by the same crew behind the show. It looks like each Monday will see a new episode premiere. I'll be checking it out. If you're like me and trying out new shows this summer, I can't recommend Heroes enough. Give season one a shot and see what you think. I was hooked after just one episode!!

Lots of buzz as expected as The Dark Knight is close to hitting theaters. The early reviews are good on it. The box office for this movie is going to be big!! July 18th is the opening. I will have to make a trip to the movies to see this.

Mark Cuban has commented on comparing Hulu and You Tube. Interesting comments especially with the Hulu numbers that have been coming out. Here is the article with his comments:

The WB.com sent out an email this week telling of more shows that will be available upon launch in August. These shows include Everwood, Veronica Mars, Roswell, Angel, MadTV, Firefly, The Loop, and clips of In Living Color. Roswell, Angel, and Firefly are all up on Hulu so either two different sites will host the shows or just one of them. They are promising new features such as "increased video player quality", "greater interactivity and features through Facebook", and "synced viewing and chat for you and your friends". Don't forget that you can sign up to be a beta tester by registering at TheWB.com. The full public launch for the site is August 27th. I love the site so far as I registered to be a beta tester and look forward to the improvements on making the site even better.

Funny segment on The Tonight Show tonight with Ross The Intern being sent across the street to the gas station to have someone answer questions to earn a free tank of gas. How funny is it that gas prices are so ridiculous now that this is now a big giveaway? The girl that they talked to and also won said that it was $80 to fill up her SUV. That was a fun segment.

Nat is returning to the Peach Pit. Joe E. Tata has returned as Nat in the pilot episode of the new Beverly Hills 90210. No word on whether he may return as a regular. I don't think he really knows based on his comments this week.

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Courteney Cox will be guest starring this season on Scrubs. It looks like it is a three episode appearance for her.

Do you want a pair of the shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back To The Future 2? Well, you're in luck and also out of luck. Nike recently released Air Mcfly shoes which are replicas of the shoes that Marty wore in 2015, well, except for the power laces. They're a little hard to find though!! Only 350 pairs were released and are already going on Ebay for up to $1000. Wow.

The new season of Burn Notice premiered tonight on USA Network. If you haven't checked it out, I'd recommend it for sure. I've only seen two or three episodes of it and find it fun to watch. The story of the show is about a spy who gets fired and blacklisted, hence the name Burn Notice. He has to get his life back together and figure out why this happened to him. Nice mix of action, comedy, and drama. I've got to give a lot of credit to USA as they have been promoting the new season to the maximum. I've loved the music video type promo that they're been running set to "Everybody Wants You". Burn Notice airs Thursdays at 9pm central time on USA. For more info, head over to:
http://www.usanetwork.com/series/burnnotice/

Hulu has been adding a lot of classic shows lately. Throughout the summer, they are adding a new thing each day whether it be a show or a movie. Definitely some big name things going up.

Here is a look back at what the movie box office looked like ten years ago. The movie box office numbers for the weekend of July 10th, 1998. 1. Lethal Weapon 4 - $34 million. 2. Armageddon - $23.5 million. 3. Small Soldiers - $14 million. 4. Doctor Doolittle - $12.8 million. 5. Mulan - $7 million. 6. Madeline - $6.4 million. 7. The X Files: Fight The Future - $3.8 million. 8. Out Of Sight - $3.8 million. 9. Six Days, Seven Nights - $3.6 million. 10. The Truman Show - $3.5 million.

You Tube Video Of The Week: Charles Barkley or Ron Burgandy?

Have a great and safe weekend!! Take care and God bless!!

Big Brother Over The Top - Week One Thoughts

I hope many of you have floated over to Big Brother Over The Top like I have.  Tonight, we will be one week into this game and this new plat...
